HEC ULG. School of Management's University of Liege

Internship/project-thesis

HEC-ULg Business School has a joint history with enterprises going back many years. Relationships of trust have been formed over the years and have resulted in various types of partnership, active collaborations and the strong involvement of companies at various levels:

• governance of the School and its development strategy;

• reciprocal development of knowledge and expertise

• from companies to the HEC-ULg: contributions to courses (lectures,  testimonials, case studies, etc); development of our courses and axes of research (Chairs, Research Centers),

• from HEC-ULg to enterprises: offers of Executive Education courses, In-Company courses, realization of studies, joint research;

• contact with our students: through training them, communicating with them at "Job Days", recruitment, or allocating mobility grants; participating in and being associated with the image and renown of HEC-ULg through these activities.

Through numerous exchanges, companies share in the development of HEC-ULg every day and become special partners benefiting from high visibility to the students on our courses, our graduates, and the overall network of professionals at the School.

During their training at HEC-Management School of Liège University, all students in the 120-credit branch must complete an internship in an enterprise during the 2nd year of their Master’s degree program.  The task assigned to them during the internship must be relevant to the option they have chosen in their Master’s degree curriculum.

There are two possibilities:

The 10-Week Internship

The student completes an internship in an enterprise during the first 10 weeks of the academic year (mid-September to end November).

The internship can be undertaken in a private (commercial, financial or industrial) or public enterprise, a para-governmental body or an international organization.

The internship takes place in Belgium or abroad and is generally not remunerated.

The internship familiarizes the student with the life and management of enterprises and allows him or her to confront the theoretical knowledge acquired with its practical implementation.  It also gives the student the opportunity to deal with a management problem and to fulfill a specific task that has been entrusted to him or her.

The Project-Thesis

The student will be present in an enterprise throughout the academic year – full-time during the first term and then one day a week during the second term.

The student must analyze a high level management project and formulate recommendations for the enterprise.  This may be a private or public enterprise, in the market or non market sectors, based in Belgium or the Euregio.

This work constitutes the student’s final assessment project.
