The internship and thesis are interrelated and deal with a similar theme. They are relevant to the specialization option students have chosen. Specializing in a specific field enables students to build up immediately marketable expertise in economics.
Students who have enrolled in a 120-credit Master’s degree course at HEC Liège are required to complete a minimum 10-week internship during the second quadrimester of the second year of the Master.
An internship familiarizes students with the life and management of companies and allows them to confront the theoretical knowledge acquired with its practical implementation.
Students have the opportunity during the internship to deal with an economic or financial problem and to fulfill a specific task they have been assigned, which has to be connected to the option they have chosen.
While allowing students to develop essential qualities, such as organizational skills, adaptability, resourcefulness, a sense of responsibility and interpersonal contacts, an internship fuels their motivation in relation to their future professional careers.
The internship may be undertaken within a company, a public institution, an international organization or a research centre in or outside Belgium.
An individual scientific research project consistent with the option chosen in the 120-credit Master or the skills acquired during the 60-credit Master, the thesis involves analyzing an economic or financial problem expressed in a research question.
This project, based on a rigorous scientific approach, must enable students to demonstrate they have mastered the theoretical knowledge learned during training and are able to apply this knowledge discerningly in order to analyze and solve an economic or financial problem.
