HEC Liège has received the EQUIS international accreditation!

EQUIS: a well-deserved prestigious international achievement

On 13 December 2016, HEC Liège – the Management School of the University of Liège – received a very distinguished international recognition. It has been awarded the EQUIS accreditation by the EFMD (European Foundation for Management Development). HEC Liège thereby became one of only 167 Business Schools worldwide to be recognized in this way.

The EQUIS accreditation, which represents a cooperative effort that has been built to last, highlights the common success of every member of the School staff, centered on the Quality Management Service. Anne-Joëlle Philippart could thus rely on the close cooperation of her team members: Anne-Marie Pirson, David Homburg, Fabienne Fontaine, Fabrice Pirnay, François Guissard, Pascale Slock et Perrine Neuprez. Moreover, the School would never have been able to obtain the EQUIS accreditation without the unwavering support of the Rector’s executive team, the numerous services of the University of Liège, our alumni, our sponsors and our many partners.

The drastic transformation of HEC Liège started primarily in 2005, thanks to the achievement of the fusion process between HEC and the Faculty of Management of the University of Liège. Little by little, HEC Liège evolved towards an ambitious set of goals, combining a strong local presence with a privileged position within the international scene. Processes, modes of governance and programs have been revised and improved. The School’s research has been boosted and a new impetus has been given to continuing education. Scientific excellence has always been in line with managerial practice, in order to meet the needs of the companies and the region.

The results appeared quickly! The EFMD’s EPAS accreditation was earned by our Master in Management (2011), our doctoral program (2011), and our Master in Business Engineering (2013). The EPAS label recognizes the international excellence of a flagship program of a business school. It is therefore no surprise that our Master programs are currently composed of 33% international students and this rate reaches 46% for the doctoral program.

We offer an attractive selection of double-degrees in partnership with other universities. 39% of our students do their internship within a foreign company. The network of our academic partners keeps increasing, which allows us to offer 150 high-quality Erasmus destinations to our students. So, 67% of our young graduates have benefited from an international experience during their studies. Moreover, 36% of our professors have an international profile and every year we attract several post-doctoral researchers.

The EQUIS label has been awarded to HEC Liège, based on a global review of the School. This process is challenging and meticulous. Everything is verified: the governance, the management of quality, programs and research, human resources, the relevance and excellence of teaching and scientific outputs, the integration of the School in its territory, its impact as key player in the economic development, its international position, its reputation, its provision of continuing training, etc.

However, producing excellent scientific outputs is not enough: we also need our future leaders to be prepared to face the growing societal issues connected with ethics and sustainable development. Our students and researchers have to show critical thinking and openness, and they need to welcome diversity. Business Schools have learned the lessons of the latest economic crises. Bearing in mind their responsibilities, they want to take part in the construction of tomorrow’s fairer and more humane world.
