Annual Doctoral Theses Competition for 2010 Organized by the Committee of the Regions of the European Union

Object: Annual doctoral theses competition for 2010 organized by the Committee of the Regions
Subjects covered: Economic, social and territorial cohesion, trans-European networks of infrastructures and transport systems, research, innovation, employment, business creation, economic growth, transport systems, public services, the environment, sustainable development, vocational training, respect for the principle of subsidiarity and of good governance, decentralization, territorial cooperation, contributions on European issues.
Candidates: Holders of a doctoral thesis written in one of the languages of the European Union, obtained at a University in a Member State of the European Union during the twelve months preceding the final application date of the year in question.
Prize money: € 6,000.00 for the first prize. Four merit prizes of € 2,000.00 will also be awarded.

Prize of the Foundation for the Promotion of Research at Liège University

Object: Prize in favor of doctoral work registered in 2006-2007, 2007-2008 and 2008-2009, awarded to work making a significant contribution to regional development (contribution to the economic aspects of development and its sources: political, legal, historical aspects, etc.).

Ernest-John Solvay Scientific Prize (F.R.S.-FNRS – Scientific Research Fund)

Object: to confirm international recognition and award the career of researchers from the French language community of Belgium who have worked in Human and Social Sciences.
This prize is reserved for either Belgians or foreign nationals who have been regularly affiliated for at least 5 years with a University teaching institution or a scientific establishment of the French language community of Belgium.
Prize money: € 75,000.00

Alcatel-Lucent Bell Scientific Prize (F.R.S.-FNRS/FWO – Scientific Research Fund)
Final application date: 01/03/2010
Object: the prize awarded by the Scientific Research Fund (Fonds de la Recherche Scientifique - FNRS/ Fonds Wetenschappelijk Onderzoek – FWO), thanks to the support of Alcatel-Lucent Bell, rewards a doctoral thesis representing an original study of new concepts and/or applications in the field of information and communication techniques.
This Prize is reserved for an individual researcher who has defended his or her doctoral thesis during the civil year prior to the date on which the Prize is introduced.

Annual IBM Belgium F.R.S. - FNRS IT Prize

Object: To reward the best doctoral thesis providing an original contribution to Computer Science or its applications.
In all cases, the IT part must be both detailed and advanced.

McKinsey & Company F.R.S.-FNRS Scientific Prize

Object: to allow a doctoral student to demonstrate the social or economic importance of his or her thesis or its concrete applicability in the field of science, applied science, social sciences or biomedical science.

Wernaers Prize

Object: The ISDT Wernaers Fund, created with the Scientific Research Fund (F.R.S. – FNRS), supports the promotion of research and the diffusion of scientific knowledge, with the double objective of training trainers and aiding every form of development. The prizes will be awarded to individuals or teams of no more than three people, who have demonstrated creativity and innovation in communicating their knowledge to professors and/or students and pupils.
Prize money: six prizes of € 6,500.00

International King Balduin Prize for Development (Prix International Roi Baudoin pour le Développement)

Prize of the Belgian Development Cooperation (Coopération belge au Développement)

Object: The prize recompenses scientific work that has made a major contribution to knowledge that can benefit sustainable development in developing countries. It is reserved for students and young researchers from Belgium or from a country that is partner to the Belgian Development Cooperation (Coopération belge au Développement).
Prize money: € 5,000.00 for students and € 15,000.00 for young researchers.

Prize of the Pierre-Marie and Jean-François Humblet Walloon Foundation

2009 Friends of Liège University Prize

Object: To recompense work published by a candidate aged under 35 years who is either a member of the scientific staff or a holder of an FNRS mandate, pursuing research at ULg; or a ULg graduate conducting research in this institution (or possibly elsewhere, on condition that it be under the auspices of a professor of ULg).

Alumni Award 2009

Object: To recompense a young researcher who is Belgian or enrolled in a Belgian University. The prize is conferred according to a 5-year cycle in one of the following domains: human sciences, social sciences, hard sciences, biomedical sciences and applied sciences. In 2009 it will be awarded in the domain of biomedical sciences.
