Doctoral Program

In order to obtain a doctorate at HEC-ULg School of Business in Belgium, students must successfully complete two programs:  the pre-doctoral training program comprising 60 ECTS and the doctoral program proper, comprising 120 ECTS.  The total duration of the training varies between a minimum of 3 years and a maximum of 5 years.  This programme is approved by the FNRS.

  • The pre-doctoral training program (60 ECTS) contains a common core curriculum to give a uniform basis of skills and encourage the doctoral students to get to know each other.  It makes it possible to compare models, research questions and methods.  This common basis is completed by a specialization program composed of advanced classes and thematic workshops in a choice of six specialized areas (options).  Depending on the doctoral candidate’s profile and previous path of studies and on the subject of his or her thesis, the program can be adapted.  The programme can be individualized.
  • The doctoral program is taught by ULg, ULB and UMons.  It meets the demands of the global economy in terms of specialization and integration of knowledge.  This program is supervised by the F.R.S (Fond de Recherche Scientifique – Scientific Research Fund).

The doctoral program consists of three parts:

  • a common core curriculum (35 ECTS)
  • advanced classes (10 ECTS)
  • workshops (15 ECTS)

Doctoral students of the ULg are invited to report and follow their progression in the PhD information system MyULg.
