International Exposure

Multicultural awareness and respect for diversity is one of the School’s key values. It is therefore essential for HEC Liège to ensure that all its graduates have seized the opportunity to work in an international atmosphere during their studies, and be adequately prepared to address the challenges of the world of tomorrow in a global context. Throughout their studies, HEC Liège students practice a day-to-day internationalization thanks to their work with foreign students and professors (68 nationalities represented at the school’s level). We encourage them to enrich their international capital by combining different experiences

Continuously improving the study & work abroad experience

First of all, the Erasmus study abroad experience. In 2018/2019, 151 students participated in the program. They were sent out to 79 different institutions in 40 different countries. 85% of participating students received one of their top 5 destinations. In return, we hosted 149 incoming exchange students.

To ensure the quality of HEC Liège students’ study abroad experience, we are developing strong links with approx. 150 partner Higher Education institutions all around the world, including 72 internationally accredited institutions (EQUIS, EPAS, AACSB or AMBA). Among them, 17 partners even hold the prestigious triple crown. This network has enabled, among other activities, the exchange of 151 outgoing students and 149 incoming students this academic year (2018/2019).

HEC Liège students also have the possibility to do an internship abroad (approx.. 50% of HEC Graduates choose this option). The Corporate Relations Department is in charge of internships, as well as short abroad field trips activities (3 to 7 days mobility), through the AWEX Explort Program.

For the last four years, the International Relations Department has also implemented a Skills Portfolio Workshop for HEC Liège Master students: « Travel abroad for a Summer School ». Organized over a short period of time (from 10 days to 4 weeks), these Summer Programs offer a subtle combination of lectures, conferences and visits to companies and/or official institutions, cultural visits, networking events, etc. The combination of several activities enables them to achieve additional skills and be part of a multicultural group for a short – but intense – period of time. 10 students attended a Summer School program in Summer 2018 (in Portugal, Germany, China or Norway, see detailed report). They all came back with very positive feedback.

Developing strategic alliances

Over the last decade, we have started to intensify our collaboration with key partner Universities thanks to the development of double degree programs.

As of today, 7 agreements are active and include 20 double degree programs, covering all HEC Liège’s Full English master specializations. A double degree program has also been established @ Bachelor level, with Universität Hohenheim.

In addition, new agreements are well under approval process, with Ural Federal University – Graduate School of Management (Ekaterinburg - Russia) and the Institute of World Economy – Corvinus University of Budapest.

To facilitate double degree negotiations, HEC Liège joined the HERMES Network in 2010. This network gathers 26 worldwide Universities from 15 countries (including, Australia, China, the USA, etc). We share common goals and develop genuine expertise regarding double degrees, namely thanks to networking, discussions, meetings, workshops and the annual General Assembly.

Recruiting international students, @ Master level

After developing specific marketing tools providing short, accurate and exhaustive information for potential international degree seeking master students, we identified three target-oriented channels to promote our Management School: international recruitment fairs, an online platform and international bilateral agreements.

These actions, combined with Erasmus « Incoming » exchange students, lead to a strong representation of international students @ Master level (35%). This percentage allows an important cultural and academic input, offering a real source of « internationalization @ home » for the whole HEC Liège community.

As previous campaigns have shown that strategic partnerships are a very efficient tool to recruit high quality students, we intensify the already existing partnerships and extend them to other partners. The objective of these international agreements is to facilitate the admission of high quality students from our partner Universities to HEC Liège Master programs.

Efforts are also made to internationalize HEC Liège’s Bachelor studies. A full English third year of Bachelor in Economics and Management will be offered from September 2018 and the International Relations Department is currently working hand-in-hand with The School’s Board of Directors to develop international degree-seeking agreements @ Bachelor level.
